The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Addington area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club.On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style.There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically.If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio.While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings.Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting.The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Addington

We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Addington area, a 2 day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work.On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail.A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail.In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process.The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
