Beginners Art Classes Argos-Hill
Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.
Advanced Art Classes Argos-Hill

Fine Art Courses Argos-Hill
For a broader overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Argos-Hill area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Argos-Hill
Another class we offer in the greater Argos-Hill area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes proivde an opportunity for artists to discover their creative side and practise their draftmanship in a focused, supportive environment. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.
Landscape Painting Courses Argos-Hill
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Argos-Hill area. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Argos-Hill
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Argos-Hill area. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Students’ work and the choices they made during its creation will be discussed and analysed during this process to discover how to create tension and interest in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
