Beginners Art Classes Ashfold-Crossways
Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

Landscape Painting Courses Ashfold-Crossways
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Ashfold-Crossways area. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Ashfold-Crossways
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Ashfold-Crossways area. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. The first day will start with a demonstration by Tim then you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which concentrate on form, tone and colour, rather than detail. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
