Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.
Advanced Art Classes Baldwins-Hill
Professional artists wanting to gain more experience or depth or focus on the work they already create will find our Advanced art courses in the greater Baldwins-Hill area ideal. As practising artists, all of our tutors can give technical support and provide insight into the industry as it stands at the moment. On an Advanced art course you are bound to find yourself in a class of like-minded artists aiming to develop and define their work and challenge their skills and expand their knowledge. As working professionals, we understand that you have responsibilities outside the studio so finding the time to take part in a course may not be easy, which is why we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses Baldwins-Hill
If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Baldwins-Hill area. The tutors will provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, which will help the students focus on and effectively critique their artworks. The programme is taught by professional artists, which allows students to benefit from one to one tutorials as well as be involved in class workshops and discussions. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Baldwins-Hill
The Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Baldwins-Hill area are a popular choice. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. Taking part in the class means drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.
Landscape Painting Courses Baldwins-Hill
The New School of Art also offers a 2-day Landscape Painting course in the greater Baldwins-Hill area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting Baldwins-Hill
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2-day course in the greater Baldwins-Hill area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
