Beginners Art Classes Beachy-Head

Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.

Advanced Art Classes Beachy-Head

Professional artists wanting to gain more experience or depth or focus on the work they already create will find our Advanced art courses in the greater Beachy-Head area ideal. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Beachy-Head

For a broader overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Beachy-Head area. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Beachy-Head

We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Beachy-Head area, which are very popular. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. In this class, the life model is drawn in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes proivde an opportunity for artists to discover their creative side and practise their draftmanship in a focused, supportive environment. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Beachy-Head

We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Beachy-Head area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Beachy-Head

We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Beachy-Head area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
