If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. You will be given the opportunity to share ideas with other students, as well as being given one to one time with your tutor to focus on your own specific needs.

The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. On the course students will gain insight into how their course tutor works and at the same time develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes Bellfields

Another class we offer in the greater Bellfields area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. The philosophy of our Art school is based on the belief that rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work. In this class, the life model is drawn in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Bellfields

Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater Bellfields area are 2 day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.

Portrait Painting Bellfields

We also offer a 2 day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Bellfields area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
