Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Bellingham area.Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course.There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely.If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio.While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings.You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting.The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.

Portrait Painting Bellingham

Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater Bellingham area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it.The first day will start with a demonstration by Tim then you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which concentrate on form, tone and colour, rather than detail.On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail.Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition.The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
