If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons incorporate individual and group work. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Birchden
A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Birchden area. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. Taking part in the class means drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. This class not only provides tuition and direction, but it is a good opportunity to focus on drawing in a more social setting.
Landscape Painting Courses Birchden
Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater Birchden area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.
Portrait Painting Birchden
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Birchden area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
