The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Blackheath area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club.This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style.There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely.Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio.While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings.A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting.The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Blackheath

We also offer a 2 day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Blackheath area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI.On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work.The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail.On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail.Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition.The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
