The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Blackwall area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club.This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style.The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically.Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio.While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings.A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting.On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.

Portrait Painting Blackwall

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2 day course in the greater Blackwall area.This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it.On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail.A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail.A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition.At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
