Beginners Art Classes Broadford-Bridge
Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.
Advanced Art Classes Broadford-Bridge

Another course offered by the New School of Art is the Fine Art course in the greater Broadford-Bridge area, which offers a broader overview of fine art. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.
Life Drawing Classes Broadford-Bridge
We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Broadford-Bridge area, which are very popular. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Broadford-Bridge
The New School of Art also offers a 2-day Landscape Painting course in the greater Broadford-Bridge area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Broadford-Bridge
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Broadford-Bridge area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
