Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Brockley area.This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style.There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically.Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio.As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so.You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting.On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.

Portrait Painting Brockley

We also offer a 2 day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Brockley area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI.On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work.The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail.A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail.In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process.The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
