Beginners Art Classes Brooks-Green
Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Our Beginner art lessons incorporate individual and group work. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Brooks-Green
The Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Brooks-Green area are a popular choice. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Brooks-Green
Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater Brooks-Green area are 2-day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.
Portrait Painting Brooks-Green
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2-day course in the greater Brooks-Green area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
