The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Canonbury area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club.Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course.You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely.Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio.Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition.A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting.On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Canonbury
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater Canonbury area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work.Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour.The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail.Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition.The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
