Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons incorporate individual and group work. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

Landscape Painting Courses Chiddingfold
Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2 day workshop in the greater Chiddingfold area on Landscape Painting. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting Chiddingfold
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2 day workshop in the greater Chiddingfold area. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
