Art Courses Chownes-Mead

Chownes-Mead, inspiring and diverse, is a hub for the Arts. Many established artists call it home, while it is also the place to come to for emerging and aspiring artists. When considering taking an art course, Chownes-Mead is the natural choice. The New School of Art presents courses led by well-established, highly regarded art historians and artists who will support and guide you through the course of your choice.

Beginners Art Classes Chownes-Mead

Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Advanced Art Classes Chownes-Mead

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Chownes-Mead area are ideal for professional artists who are looking for more experience, depth or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and will be able to give you technical support and provide an insight into the industry as it stands right now. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. As working professionals, we understand that you have responsibilities outside the studio so finding the time to take part in a course may not be easy, which is why we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Chownes-Mead

The New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Chownes-Mead area for a more general overview of fine art. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Chownes-Mead

Another class we offer in the greater Chownes-Mead area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be available to give guidance and provide instruction. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Chownes-Mead

We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Chownes-Mead area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Chownes-Mead

Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Chownes-Mead area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
