Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment.Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Covent Garden

Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2 day workshop in the greater Covent Garden area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition.You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Covent Garden

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2 day course in the greater Covent Garden area. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour.Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
