Art Courses Crowhurst
Crowhurst is an inspiring and diverse centre for the Arts. Many established artists call it home, while it is also the place to come to for emerging and aspiring artists. When considering taking an art course, Crowhurst should be the destination of choice. The New School of Art offers courses that are led by highly regarded, well established and experienced artists and art historians who will guide and support you through your chosen course.
Beginners Art Classes Crowhurst
Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Our Beginner art lessons incorporate individual and group work. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.
Advanced Art Classes Crowhurst
Professional artists wanting to gain more experience or depth or focus on the work they already create will find our Advanced art courses in the greater Crowhurst area ideal. As practising artists, all of our tutors can give technical support and provide insight into the industry as it stands at the moment. On an Advanced art course you are bound to find yourself in a class of like minded artists aiming to develop and define their work and challenge their skills and expand their knowledge. We realise that as working professionals it can be hard to juggle your responsibilities and taking part in a course, so we have timetables which can accommodate your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses Crowhurst
Another course offered by the New School of Art is the Fine Art course in the greater Crowhurst area, which offers a broader overview of fine art. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. The programme is taught by professional artists, which allows students to benefit from one to one tutorials as well as be involved in class workshops and discussions. On the course students will gain insight into how their course tutor works and at the same time develop their own skills.
Life Drawing Classes Crowhurst
A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Crowhurst area. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Crowhurst
Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater Crowhurst area are 2 day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.
Portrait Painting Crowhurst
We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Crowhurst area, a 2 day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
