When you think about taking an art course, you should immediately consider Dale-Hill. The New School of Art offers a range of art courses, all led by established, highly regarded artists and art historians who are on hand to help you through your course.
Beginners Art Classes Dale-Hill
Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. Our Beginner art classes are intentionally kept small and intimate by aiming to cap the class sizes at 10 or 12 to allow you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be given the opportunity to share ideas with other students, as well as being given one to one time with your tutor to focus on your own specific needs.
Advanced Art Classes Dale-Hill
Our Advanced art courses in the greater Dale-Hill area are ideal for professional artists who are looking for more experience, depth or focus on the work they already create. Our team of tutors are practising artists and will be available to provide an insight into the current industry and provide technical support to the students. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like-minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We understand that taking the time to do a course can be tricky, especially if you are a working professional, so we have developed timetables to suit your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses Dale-Hill
If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Dale-Hill area. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.
Life Drawing Classes Dale-Hill
A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Dale-Hill area. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. Taking part in the class means drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. This class not only provides tuition and direction, but it is a good opportunity to focus on drawing in a more social setting.
Landscape Painting Courses Dale-Hill
We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Dale-Hill area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Dale-Hill
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2-day course in the greater Dale-Hill area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
