Beginners Art Classes Dial-Post
Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.
Advanced Art Classes Dial-Post
Our Advanced art courses in the greater Dial-Post area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. Our team of tutors are practising artists and will be available to provide an insight into the current industry and provide technical support to the students. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. Fine Art Courses Dial-Post
The New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Dial-Post area for a more general overview of fine art. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. During the course, students will develop their skills and gain insight into the way their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Dial-Post
We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Dial-Post area, which are very popular. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. Taking part in the class means drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes proivde an opportunity for artists to discover their creative side and practise their draftmanship in a focused, supportive environment. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.
Landscape Painting Courses Dial-Post
Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater Dial-Post area are 2-day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.
Portrait Painting Dial-Post
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Dial-Post area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
