Beginners Art Classes Dockenfield

Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

Advanced Art Classes Dockenfield

If as a professional artist you are looking to gain more experience, depth or focus on the work you already create, then our Advanced art courses in the greater Dockenfield area are ideal for you. As practising artists, all of our tutors can give technical support and provide insight into the industry as it stands at the moment. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. As working professionals, we understand that you have responsibilities outside the studio so finding the time to take part in a course may not be easy, which is why we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.

The philosophy of our Art school is based on the belief that rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Dockenfield

Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2 day workshop in the greater Dockenfield area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Dockenfield

We also offer a 2 day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Dockenfield area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. The first day will start with a demonstration by Tim then you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which concentrate on form, tone and colour, rather than detail. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
