Art Courses East-Lavington

East-Lavington, inspiring and diverse, is a hub for the Arts. It is home to lots of established artists, but many up-and-coming creatives also find their way here. If you are considering taking an art course, East-Lavington should be your first choice. The New School of Art presents a range of courses, all led by high regarded and well-established art historians and artists who offer continual guidance and support to their students throughout their course.

Beginners Art Classes East-Lavington

Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.

Advanced Art Classes East-Lavington

Our Advanced art courses in the greater East-Lavington area are ideal for professional artists who are looking for more experience, depth or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and so will be able to give technical support to our students as well as provide an insight into the current status of the industry. On an Advanced art course you are bound to find yourself in a class of like-minded artists aiming to develop and define their work and challenge their skills and expand their knowledge. We understand that as working professionals you have other responsibilities outside the studio and finding the time to take part in a course can be hard, so we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses East-Lavington

For a more general overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater East-Lavington area. By presenting an introduction to fine art practice – including painting and drawing – our team of tutors will assist students in focusing on and developing a critical awareness of their work. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes East-Lavington

We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater East-Lavington area, which are very popular. The philosophy of our Art school is based on the belief that rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.

Landscape Painting Courses East-Lavington

We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater East-Lavington area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.

Portrait Painting East-Lavington

Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater East-Lavington area. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
