Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2 day workshop in the greater Eel Pie Island area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings.A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Eel Pie Island

Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2 day workshop in the greater Eel Pie Island area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail.The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
