The New School of Art presents a range of courses, all led by high regarded and well-established art historians and artists who offer continual guidance and support to their students throughout their course.
Beginners Art Classes Ewhurst-Green
Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.
Advanced Art Classes Ewhurst-Green
Professional artists wanting to gain more experience or depth or focus on the work they already create will find our Advanced art courses in the greater Ewhurst-Green area ideal. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. On an Advanced art course you will be in a class of like-minded artists, who have the same goal – to develop and define their own practice and challenge their existing skills and knowledge. We realise that as working professionals it can be hard to juggle your responsibilities and taking part in a course, so we have timetables which can accommodate your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses Ewhurst-Green
For a more general overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Ewhurst-Green area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Ewhurst-Green
Our Life Drawing classes which we offer in the greater Ewhurst-Green area are proving to be a popular choice. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. In this class, the life model is drawn in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Tutors will be available to give guidance and provide instruction. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. This class not only provides tuition and direction, but it is a good opportunity to focus on drawing in a more social setting.
Landscape Painting Courses Ewhurst-Green
Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater Ewhurst-Green area are 2-day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.
Portrait Painting Ewhurst-Green
We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Ewhurst-Green area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
