Our art courses cater for a range of abilities – from beginner to professional artists. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Advanced Art Classes Fletching-Common

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Fletching-Common area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and will be able to give you technical support and provide an insight into the industry as it stands right now. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Fletching-Common

Another course offered by the New School of Art is the Fine Art course in the greater Fletching-Common area, which offers a broader overview of fine art. By providing an introduction to fine art practice – including drawing and painting– the tutors will help students focus and critically reflect upon their work and painting. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Fletching-Common

We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Fletching-Common area, which are very popular. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Fletching-Common

Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Fletching-Common area. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.

Portrait Painting Fletching-Common

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater Fletching-Common area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
