Art Courses Foul-Mile

Foul-Mile, inspiring and diverse, is a hub for the Arts. Not only established artists but also many emerging creatives call Foul-Mile home. When considering taking an art course, Foul-Mile is the natural choice. The New School of Art offers a range of art courses, all led by established, highly regarded artists and art historians who are on hand to help you through your course.

Beginners Art Classes Foul-Mile

Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. Regardless of whether you are just beginning, having some fun or developing your artistic skills, our tutors will be able to work with you at your level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Our Beginner art lessons incorporate individual and group work. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

Advanced Art Classes Foul-Mile

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Foul-Mile area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and so will be able to give technical support to our students as well as provide an insight into the current status of the industry. On an Advanced art course you will be in a class of like-minded artists, who have the same goal – to develop and define their own practice and challenge their existing skills and knowledge. We realise that as working professionals it can be hard to juggle your responsibilities and taking part in a course, so we have timetables which can accommodate your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Foul-Mile

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Foul-Mile area. The tutors will provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, which will help the students focus on and effectively critique their artworks. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Foul-Mile

Another class we offer in the greater Foul-Mile area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.

Landscape Painting Courses Foul-Mile

Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Foul-Mile area. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Foul-Mile

We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Foul-Mile area, a 2-day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
