Beginners Art Classes Haxted
Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.
Advanced Art Classes Haxted
If as a professional artist you are looking to gain more experience, depth or focus on the work you already create, then our Advanced art courses in the greater Haxted area are ideal for you. All of our tutors are practising artists and so will be able to give technical support to our students as well as provide an insight into the current status of the industry. On an Advanced art course you will be in a class of like minded artists, who have the same goal – to develop and define their own practice and challenge their existing skills and knowledge. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

Life Drawing Classes Haxted

We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Haxted
Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2 day workshop in the greater Haxted area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting Haxted
Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2 day course in the greater Haxted area. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
