Beginners Art Classes Holtye
Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Holtye area are ideal for professional artists who are looking for more experience, depth or focus on the work they already create. Life Drawing Classes Holtye
The Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Holtye area are a popular choice. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to practise their draftmanship and indulge their creativity in a supportive, focussed environment. Tutors will be available to give guidance and provide instruction. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Holtye
We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Holtye area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.
Portrait Painting Holtye
Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater Holtye area. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
