Horsemere-Green is most certainly an inspiring and diverse centre for the Arts. It is the home of choice for many established artists but also a must-visit destination for aspiring artists. If you are considering taking an art course, Horsemere-Green should be your first choice. Highly regarded and well-established artists and art historians will lead you through the art course of your choice at The New School of Art.

Beginners Art Classes Horsemere-Green

Our art courses cater for a range of abilities – from beginner to professional artists. Regardless of whether you are just beginning, having some fun or developing your artistic skills, our tutors will be able to work with you at your level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Advanced Art Classes Horsemere-Green

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Horsemere-Green area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and will be able to give you technical support and provide an insight into the industry as it stands right now. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like-minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Horsemere-Green

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Horsemere-Green area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Horsemere-Green

We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Horsemere-Green area, which are very popular. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Horsemere-Green

Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Horsemere-Green area. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.

Portrait Painting Horsemere-Green

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater Horsemere-Green area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
