Beginners Art Classes Isle of Dogs
Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. By aiming to ensure a maximum class size of 10 or 12, we are able to offer small, intimate Beginner art classes and a tutor on hand to give you the individual attention you need. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.
Advanced Art Classes Isle of Dogs
If as a professional artist you are looking to gain more experience, depth or focus on the work you already create, then our Advanced art courses in the greater Isle of Dogs area are ideal for you. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. For a broader overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Isle of Dogs area. The tutors will provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, which will help the students focus on and effectively critique their artworks. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Isle of Dogs
We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Isle of Dogs area, which are very popular. We believe rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work, and underpins our philosophy as an Art school. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to practise their draftmanship and indulge their creativity in a supportive, focussed environment.Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Isle of Dogs
The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Isle of Dogs area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings.A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Isle of Dogs
Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2 day course in the greater Isle of Dogs area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. The first day will start with a demonstration by Tim then you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which concentrate on form, tone and colour, rather than detail.Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
