Beginners Art Classes Langley Vale

Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

Advanced Art Classes Langley Vale

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Langley Vale area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. Our team of tutors are practising artists and will be available to provide an insight into the current industry and provide technical support to the students. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We realise that as working professionals it can be hard to juggle your responsibilities and taking part in a course, so we have timetables which can accommodate your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Langley Vale

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Langley Vale area. By providing an introduction to fine art practice – including drawing and painting– the tutors will help students focus and critically reflect upon their work and painting. Taught by professional artists, this programme allows students to benefit from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes Langley Vale

We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Langley Vale area, which are very popular. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Langley Vale

The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Langley Vale area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Langley Vale

Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater Langley Vale area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
