By presenting an introduction to fine art practice – including painting and drawing – our team of tutors will assist students in focusing on and developing a critical awareness of their work. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes proivde an opportunity for artists to discover their creative side and practise their draftmanship in a focused, supportive environment. Landscape Painting Courses Leggatt-Hill
We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Leggatt-Hill area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Leggatt-Hill
We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Leggatt-Hill area, a 2-day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
