Art Courses Little-Common

Little-Common is an inspiring and diverse centre for the Arts. It is home to lots of established artists, but many up-and-coming creatives also find their way here. When you think about taking an art course, you should immediately consider Little-Common. The New School of Art presents courses led by well-established, highly regarded art historians and artists who will support and guide you through the course of your choice.

Beginners Art Classes Little-Common

Our art courses cater for a range of abilities – from beginner to professional artists. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. Our Beginner art classes are intentionally kept small and intimate by aiming to cap the class sizes at 10 or 12 to allow you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.

Advanced Art Classes Little-Common

For those professional artists who are looking to gain more experience or depth or concentrate on the art they have already produced, our Advanced art courses are just what you are looking for. All of our tutors are practising artists and so will be able to give technical support to our students as well as provide an insight into the current status of the industry. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Little-Common

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Little-Common area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. Taught by professional artists, this programme allows students to benefit from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes Little-Common

Another class we offer in the greater Little-Common area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. The philosophy of our Art school is based on the belief that rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Little-Common

Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater Little-Common area are 2-day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Little-Common

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater Little-Common area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
