Fine Art Courses Magham-Down

For a more general overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Magham-Down area. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Magham-Down

A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Magham-Down area. We believe rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work, and underpins our philosophy as an Art school. Taking part in the class means drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Magham-Down

We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Magham-Down area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Magham-Down

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater Magham-Down area. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
