Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2 day workshop in the greater Mill Hill area on Landscape Painting. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so.You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Mill Hill
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater Mill Hill area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
