Beginners Art Classes Mountfield
Our art courses cater for a range of abilities – from beginner to professional artists. If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.
Advanced Art Classes Mountfield
Our Advanced art courses in the greater Mountfield area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. As practising artists, all of our tutors can give technical support and provide insight into the industry as it stands at the moment. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like-minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Mountfield
The Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Mountfield area are a popular choice. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.
Landscape Painting Courses Mountfield
Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater Mountfield area on Landscape Painting. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting Mountfield
We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Mountfield area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. During this course, students will become familiar with the artist, his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
