Beginners Art Classes Nag’s Head
Whether you are a beginner or a professional artist, we have an art course designed just for you. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be given the opportunity to share ideas with other students, as well as being given one to one time with your tutor to focus on your own specific needs.
Advanced Art Classes Nag’s Head

Landscape Painting Courses Nag’s Head
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Nag’s Head area. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so.A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Nag’s Head
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater Nag’s Head area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour.A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Students’ work and the choices they made during its creation will be discussed and analysed during this process to discover how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
