This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition.Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Notting Hill
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2 day workshop in the greater Notting Hill area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail.A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
