Beginners Art Classes Old Ford

Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to practise their draftmanship and indulge their creativity in a supportive, focussed environment.Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Old Ford

The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Old Ford area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so.Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.

Portrait Painting Old Ford

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2 day course in the greater Old Ford area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour.The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
