Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons incorporate individual and group work. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Landscape Painting Courses Piltdown
Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater Piltdown area on Landscape Painting. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting Piltdown
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Piltdown area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
