Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Riddlesdown area. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so.Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.

Portrait Painting Riddlesdown

We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Riddlesdown area, a 2 day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour.The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
