Beginners Art Classes Salvington

Whether you are a beginner or a professional artist, we have an art course designed just for you. Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.

Advanced Art Classes Salvington

For those professional artists who are looking to gain more experience or depth or concentrate on the art they have already produced, our Advanced art courses are just what you are looking for. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. In the Advanced art class you will be surrounded by like-minded artists who wish to define and develop their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We understand that as working professionals you have other responsibilities outside the studio and finding the time to take part in a course can be hard, so we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Salvington

Another course offered by the New School of Art is the Fine Art course in the greater Salvington area, which offers a broader overview of fine art. By presenting an introduction to fine art practice – including painting and drawing – our team of tutors will assist students in focusing on and developing a critical awareness of their work. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Salvington

A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Salvington area. We believe rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work, and underpins our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to practise their draftmanship and indulge their creativity in a supportive, focussed environment. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.

Landscape Painting Courses Salvington

We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Salvington area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Salvington

We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Salvington area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
