Beginners Art Classes Sheerwater
Our art courses cater for a range of abilities – from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.
Advanced Art Classes Sheerwater

Our team of tutors are practising artists and will be available to provide an insight into the current industry and provide technical support to the students. You are sure to find like minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. We understand that taking the time to do a course can be tricky, especially if you are a working professional, so we have developed timetables to suit your busy schedule.

The programme is taught by professional artists, which allows students to benefit from one to one tutorials as well as be involved in class workshops and discussions. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Sheerwater
Another class we offer in the greater Sheerwater area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. In this class, the life model is drawn in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.
Landscape Painting Courses Sheerwater
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Sheerwater area. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.
Portrait Painting Sheerwater
We also offer a 2 day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Sheerwater area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
