Beginners Art Classes Silver-Hill

Our art courses cater for a range of abilities – from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our Beginner art classes are intentionally kept small and intimate by aiming to cap the class sizes at 10 or 12 to allow you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Advanced Art Classes Silver-Hill

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Silver-Hill area are ideal for professional artists who are looking for more experience, depth or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and will be able to give you technical support and provide an insight into the industry as it stands right now. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. We understand that taking the time to do a course can be tricky, especially if you are a working professional, so we have developed timetables to suit your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Silver-Hill

For a broader overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Silver-Hill area. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. The programme is taught by professional artists, which allows students to benefit from one to one tutorials as well as be involved in class workshops and discussions. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Silver-Hill

Another class we offer in the greater Silver-Hill area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. We believe rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work, and underpins our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Tutors will be available to give guidance and provide instruction. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Silver-Hill

We offer 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Silver-Hill area which are led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Silver-Hill

Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater Silver-Hill area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
