Art Courses Small-Dole

Small-Dole is most certainly an inspiring and diverse centre for the Arts. It is home to lots of established artists, but many up-and-coming creatives also find their way here. When you think about taking an art course, you should immediately consider Small-Dole. The New School of Art presents a range of courses, all led by high regarded and well-established art historians and artists who offer continual guidance and support to their students throughout their course.

Beginners Art Classes Small-Dole

Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. If you are looking to develop an existing skill, are starting a new hobby or are completely new to painting, our tutors will be able to support you at your individual level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be given the opportunity to share ideas with other students, as well as being given one to one time with your tutor to focus on your own specific needs.

Advanced Art Classes Small-Dole

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Small-Dole area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. As practising artists, all of our tutors can give technical support and provide insight into the industry as it stands at the moment. You are sure to find like-minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. We understand that as working professionals you have other responsibilities outside the studio and finding the time to take part in a course can be hard, so we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Small-Dole

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Small-Dole area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Small-Dole

We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater Small-Dole area, which are very popular. We believe rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work, and underpins our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses Small-Dole

The New School of Art also offers a 2-day Landscape Painting course in the greater Small-Dole area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Small-Dole

Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Small-Dole area. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
