Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so.You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.

Portrait Painting South Kensington

Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater South Kensington area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail.On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. Students’ work and the choices they made during its creation will be discussed and analysed during this process to discover how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
