The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. The programme is taught by professional artists, which allows students to benefit from one to one tutorials as well as be involved in class workshops and discussions. Life Drawing Classes St-Leonards
A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater St-Leonards area. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses St-Leonards
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater St-Leonards area. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.
Portrait Painting St-Leonards
Also on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters – a 2-day course in the greater St-Leonards area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. A large painting will be produced by the students on the second day – again, a work without detail. Students’ work and the choices they made during its creation will be discussed and analysed during this process to discover how to create tension and interest in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
