Landscape Painting Courses Staplecross

Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Staplecross area. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Staplecross

We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Staplecross area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. The first day will start with a demonstration by Tim then you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which concentrate on form, tone and colour, rather than detail. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work and the choices they made during its creation will be discussed and analysed during this process to discover how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
