The New School of Art also offers a 2 day Landscape Painting course in the greater Stratford area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition.Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Stratford
Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2 day course in the greater Stratford area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. On this course, students will get to know the artist and his work, as well as the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail.Students will produce a large painting on the second day, with the added difficulty of not adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
