Beginners Art Classes The-Haven

Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.

Advanced Art Classes The-Haven

For those professional artists who are looking to gain more experience or depth or concentrate on the art they have already produced, our Advanced art courses are just what you are looking for. As practising artists, all of our tutors can give technical support and provide insight into the industry as it stands at the moment. On an Advanced art course you are bound to find yourself in a class of like-minded artists aiming to develop and define their work and challenge their skills and expand their knowledge. We understand that taking the time to do a course can be tricky, especially if you are a working professional, so we have developed timetables to suit your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses The-Haven

For a broader overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater The-Haven area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. As it is led by professional artists, this programme gives students the opportunity of benefitting from class discussions, workshops and one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes The-Haven

A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater The-Haven area. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. In this class, the life model is drawn in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes proivde an opportunity for artists to discover their creative side and practise their draftmanship in a focused, supportive environment. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses The-Haven

Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater The-Haven area on Landscape Painting. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting The-Haven

We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater The-Haven area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, after a demonstration by Tim, you will proceed to create small, quick oil sketches which focus more on tone, colour and form than detail. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
